Vapt Food

Digital menu, delivery and restaurant management in a single system.

A SaaS in progress for restaurants and snack bars in inland Goiás, Brazil: an online store with no sign-up for customers and a panel with real-time orders, POS, kitchen display and reports.

Still building

This project is still being put together. Here is what is in place and what is left.

6 of 9 pieces in place
  • Restaurant storefront: menu, product, bag, checkout and order tracking, with no customer account needed
  • Panel with a real-time order board, POS, kitchen display, cash register and history
  • Menu with add-ons and options, customers, coupons and reviews
  • Delivery areas with distance-based fees, couriers, opening hours and payment methods
  • Performance reports (sales, products, customers, cancellations)
  • Sign-up, subscription with a free trial and in-house login
  • WhatsApp, marketing, loyalty, store credit, tables, finance and inventory (placeholder screens today)
  • Online Pix payments with payouts to the restaurant

Worth calling out

  • Real-time orders

A board by stage that updates on its own, with POS and kitchen display.

  • Store with no sign-up

Customers order from the browser, with no account and no per-order fee for the restaurant.

  • End-to-end contracts

Store, panel and API share the same contracts: a change breaks the build before it breaks a screen.

  • Distance-based delivery fee

The restaurant draws radius bands on a map and the fee comes from the distance to the customer.

The problem

The owner of a small restaurant or snack bar in inland Goiás, Brazil, usually runs the menu, delivery orders and management across separate tools, or on paper. Nothing talks to each other, and there's no single view of what's leaving the kitchen.

And the people using it aren't technical: everything has to be obvious without a manual.

The solution

Vapt Food brings three things together: the digital menu, the restaurant's own online store and a management panel. Customers order from their phone's browser without creating an account, choose delivery or pickup and track the order. The restaurant gets its own store, with no fee per order.

In the panel, orders arrive on a real-time board, split by stage. It also holds the POS for the counter, the kitchen display, the cash register, order history, the menu with add-ons, customers, coupons, reviews, delivery areas and performance reports.

The project is still being built: WhatsApp, marketing, loyalty, tables, finance and inventory are still placeholder screens, and online Pix payments are on the roadmap.

How it works

It is a monorepo with three Next.js and React web apps (landing, store and panel) and a NestJS API with Postgres. Contracts live in a shared package and the clients used by the store and the panel are generated from them, so a contract change breaks the build before it breaks a screen.

The order board updates in real time, with no page reloads for the restaurant. The delivery fee comes from the distance to the customer, using radius bands the restaurant draws on a map, and subscriptions start with a free trial.

To keep the visuals consistent I wrote a tool that puts the design reference next to the built screen, and the main flows have end-to-end tests.

My role

My own project, from product to deploy: product definition, architecture, the API, the three web apps, the design system and the infrastructure.

The landing page, with sign-up and plans.
The online store of a fictional restaurant (Vó Duquinha).
Product details, with a note and quantity.
The bag with "order also" suggestions.
The store on a phone, where customers place orders.
The real-time order board, by stage.
Order details, with customer, address, items and actions.
The POS for counter orders.
The kitchen display.
Order history with filters.
The menu, with categories, products and add-ons.
Delivery areas by radius, with each band's fee.
Sales report.
Customers with average ticket and last order.
The day's cash register.
